Shamu I have a feeling that before long your parents are going to start charging admission to your house and have it certified as a public aquarium.

That's what my parents always told me they were going to do with our house when I was growing up.

There is something special with goldfish, so it is and that's the truth!
But I'm sure you'll get your tropical tank some time!

Olivia, thats what my parents said too, that would be cool, lol, i do have 10 tanks now, eventhough I dont think thats enough. Once I have my own house i'll buy myself a chichlid tank, and at least 2 really big ponds, that way I wont need to put goldfish in the tank.

LOL, what if you got a small tank, say a 10g and kept some sort of dwarf cichlid? If it's small, you might not be tempted to buy another goldy LOL.
I love cichlids, they've got such a different personality to goldies.

And somehow, she manages to keep it all running smoothly on a limited amount of water... I envy that....

I started out with tropicals too, most my tanks are actually tropical, but none have chichlids! Maybe i'll put some little ones in my 10 gallon(I saw some pretty ones at a lfs, the guy said they dont get big and could live in a 10 gallon), but for now I've got ruby barbs and a golden barb in there, so i'll have to wait.

I would not trust the advice from the guy at the lfs. Do alot of reading online first.

I also got back to goldfish - twice over the years. It started out with tropicals, then it was goldfish, then it was goldfish and tropicals, then goldfish again, now I am back to both.
Actually, I would love to have an albino oscar, but then I look at my 55 gl tank, and I really don't see why I should just have one fish in there, since oscars are aggressive and would need a tank all to themselves. So, here I am again, with no oscar, but tropicals.
Are cichlids solidary fish too, or can they be housed with more than one of them?

Most all cichlids are community fish, but should only be kept with other cichlids. There are so many different kinds and each have their own water requirements, sooo, go to a pet store and write down a bunch of the ones you like, then come home and research to find out which 3 or 4 you could keep together.

the guy at this petstore is different, he really knows alot about fish, especially tropicals, u can ask him pretty much anything about tropicals and he'll know the answer, h knows a bit about goldfish too

. I'll try to find out what kind of chichlid they were, they were ssssoooo pretty though!
