I bought a bristle nose about 8 months ago and he was really tiny. Now he is bigger I have put him in with my GF but I noticed that he or she does not have any bristles yet. How old do they have to be to get bristles? I know females dont get as many but mine has non at all

Thanks
Mads
should be showing bristles by now, sounds like you've got a female smile.gif

I have no idea but I bought mine in April and they started to develop bristles about a month later. They both have bristles, but Uno has much bigger bristles, so I assumed they were both male... I thought female had none or very small...

Thanks for your replies. I was just really concerned because I have put them in with my GF and I would hate to think that the LFS sold me a common pleco by mistake.

My Bristle nose seems to be enjoying the larger tank with my goldfish but I noticed that he had some nibble marks on his tail. I think he has learnt to swim away very quickly if a GF approaches.

He used to be in a 2foot tank with a couple of corys, a betta and a couple of tetras so I dont think he was used to his new tank mates at the start, but he seems ok now. He has been in the GF tank for about a week.
