I was root trimming the water plants and imagine my surprise when this little tiny orange fish came to nibble at my fingers!! I really thought all the eggs/ fry were being eaten.
he is about 1 1/2 inches a bit bigger than the fry in the house but I am betting that they hatched around the same time.... lots of good food out there!

Congratulations! New pond babies are the best! I usually don't see them until they're at least a couple of inches long.

I can now say that I actually have a bonifide pond baby, the ones in the house dont really count, the eggs were laid in the pond but hatched in the house.
Finding "Hercules" makes me feel alot better about putting the bigger fry back into the pond.

Yes I am, he has proved to be a survivor, he is already to big for the big fish to eat him, But the way he is hiding, well, I guess survival lessons are hard to break.

My 5 were a surprise too. I didn't want any more babies so I just left all the eggs in the pond. Don't you love surprises?

Oh cute!
My pond fry has a very good survival instinct, or they are very clever! I can't understand how they can survive with 7 hungry goldies out there. But they have some hiding places that I don't know of, and now they are pretty big and not afraid of the bigger ones anymore!

I got just a glimpes of him this morning, he was swimming with/ avoiding the bigger fish, he is very fast! I have 2 raised pots of water colocasia and the roots on those things have made a very nice hiding place.
I DO love those little surprises!! I found some more eggs so they are in the breeders net in the fry tank.. yet another round!
