So I'm going away for two weeks. Our whole family is. But we have 1 dog, 2 cats, a hamster, a bird, a bunny, 2 hermit crabs, and 2 bettas so we're hiring a pet sitter. Now my question is, should I just try and explain what my bettas need food wise... I think it'll be tricky because it'll be hard to explain how much... or really how LITTLE they need.

So I went out and bought a pack of four 3-day weekend feeders because the betta week-long feeders weren't around. These are for tropical fish, but are really meant for much bigger... more populated tanks. I already put one in each tank but will take them out right away if you give me a reason not to have them in there... I don't trust the sitter to feed them the right amount... but I don't know that the weekend feeders will work either. My hope is that these weekend feeders will be okay for them and can work for at least a week each for my bettas.

Anyone know what I should do? Trust the sitter and give explicit instructions, or rely on the weekend feeders?

Those feeders are usually all filler, and they mess up the water params.

You know those little boxes that old people have for their pills? The ones with a compartment for each day of the week? Why not get one of those and premeasure food servings for each day of the week? Your pet sitter can't screw that up!

Take it out, it will just pollute the tank and make your fish VERY ill while you are away. Go with the pill box idea and hide the container of food or take it with you. Be sure to explain WHY they need so little food and what may happen if she overfeeds.

Kissy is right. Take that thing out of the tank and go with the pill box idea and either remove the extra food or take it with you as she said
