I have one goldand one ivory mystery snail, and was wondering what you have to do to get them to breed with each other and not themselves blink.gif . I was wanting gold and white swirly ones, but I am not sure how to get that and not just more gold or more ivory ones. I am sure that I am the ONLY person here that WANTS snails to breed lol biggrin.gif Thanks!!!!

I bred mine by accident, hatched them out by intention.... much like my bettas but that's another story. For them to breed you need a few inches of bare glass at the top of the tank. They'll crawl up and out of the water to lay eggs. I'm pretty sure there are in fact separate sexes, so hopefully you've got one of each. Beyond that maybe some candlelight, some soft music, etc. lol

An Austin Powers turny bed.... lolol okay, thanks!

like she mentioned all you have to do is have an apple snail of each sex -one male and one female , and some open glass are at the top of the water line and they will do the rest. I have a ivory apple snail who is quite the egg laying machine. this last time she bred with the spixis

Sooo, mystery snails have different genders? I thought they were both blink.gif . Is there a way to tell other than seeing who lays the eggs?
bettaqueen
yes there is. Just go to www.applesnail.net and they have a very good diagram on snail anatomy ( both male and female) they also have a color outcome for the outspring according to the heritage. the boys snails have a certain appendage the girls do not- just like humans and it is very easy to see in the diagrams when you look on there

Okay, I see. Thanks, I will post what they are as soon as they go back into my tank smile.gif
