Full Version: Oranda Is Dying
Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Disease Diagnosis/ Treatments > Diagnosis & Discussion
THUNDER
Water conditions is in normal range as always. PH is never altered. Prime is the only treatment for the water. The size of the tank is 55 gallons with 5 filterations. Water change is done weekly at 50% to 75%. There is only 4 Goldfish, three is doing great.

The Oranda is dying. It is not eating. It is not moving. The color looks great. Nothing on the outside all around is showing any signs of illness, except that it is not moving. Top dorsal fin is still straight up in strength. This baby is staying at the bottom, in the corner, not eating. Urgent care is needed. What do I need to get?

Addittion...

I'm going to do a large water change and add some salt.

I do want to note that the fish is very calm and the breathing seem normal or slow, not fast.

How long has it been like this?
THUNDER
Well, yesterday I noticed the poor fish was a bit slow at the bottom, so I figure it was tired or relaxing, but today I noticed the extensive stay in the bottom corner.
RYUU
Well I wouldn't really call her dying yet. She's certainly not well but we've got time to try to fix it. An erect dorsal is a hopeful sign. Can you post the numbers for your test results for me? What do you feed them? Basically just give me all the info from the questions asked up top. The more info we have the better equipped we are to get her up and swimming again!
RYUU
Oh and while I'm thinking of it what's her poop look like?
THUNDER
I have not seen their poop in a very long time. I dont see long strand of poop, so my bet is that it is normal. I just changed 95% of the water. Before I did that, I took all 4 blue filters and dipped them in the tank and gently wiped away anything excess on them with my fingers. After that, I changed the water. In the 2nd plastic bins for the three emperors, I changed the filtration in them. I have not change anything in the Fluval for over a year, so I'm not sure if I need to. Tomorrow, I'll do the testings on the water, but I'm not sure if the test kits is still good, since I have them for over a year. All the other fishies is doing fine. The oranda swimmed around while I was cleaning the tank.

I feed them the food from goldfishconnection.com... I have not got around to feeding them those frozen peas, because every bag of peas I find, they always have sugar and/or sodium in them. I dont know which, sugar or sodium, that they not suppose to have.

The gender is unknown. I noticed this fish regained some of the black color in the tail. Its the same one that Daryl has.

Okay, I need to know what I should get at PetsMart? Can someone reply, please? I do not know when mom will come to get me, so when she does, we will rush out.
THUNDER
Update, the fish is trying to get around, but very weak. All the tail and fin is spread out just fine. However, the fish did get the cap stuck on the smallest filter intake, so i helped him/her and quickly dropped in food and the fish managed to get some. This is really odd..
THUNDER
I took some pictures. Look closely. The dorsal fin is up and the overall appearance is fine. He keep getting stuck on the smallest filter intake and the last time I freed him from it again, he threw up, because I moved him after he just ate. Poor fishy. I put him in a cage to prevent him from having his cap sucked off.

Get that vital info as soon as you can. there's several different things it could be but I need all that info to try to find out exactly what's wrong. I don't want to start giving you advice unless I'm fairly sure of what the problem is.
THUNDER
Its resting in the freezer. After a huge water change, it was getting stronger the next day, and then the next day, it gotten weaker. When I was putting it in the bag, I noticed the scales was kinda spiked out. It wasn't noticeable in the tank. sad.gif
RYUU
I'm sorry to hear that hope you feel better soon. heartpump.gif

Poor thing - he might very well had something internal that you couldn't have possibly seen. Rest in peace, little fellow... sad.gif
