I have a 75 gallon tank full of tiger barbs. I was wondering what, if any other fish are compatable. Im looking for a bigger fish because there is a lot of room. Any suggestions would ne great.

You don't mention how many a 'tank full' is, or your water params. Generally compatible tank mates for tiger barbs would include other barbs, a gourami, "sharks" (NOT including tricolor or irridescent, which get too big for your tank and are way too skiddish), and some of the mid-size catfish or loaches. Fish to stay away from would be slow moving or long finned fish.

If it were me though, I'd keep it how it is as a species only tank. If you do add another fish, make sure you have at least 6 barbs, and no more than 20 (for stocking).

I just got a tiger barb today! Other barbs or maybe some tetras would be great, but it's not the best idea to put long finned fish, such as gouramis or angelfish, with them because tiger barbs are fin nippers and will pick at the fishes long fins. Hope you find a good match!

Most gouramis don't have what I would consider long fins, and are generally agressive enough to take care of themselves. I wouldn't reccomend tetras which are generally more peaceful, and some tetras have very long flowing fins.

BTW fishlord, I wouldn't add a single tiger barb to a community tank. Its best to keep them in groups, not only because they perfer to be kept in groups, but this will also help keep agression toward other fish to a minimum.

Again, if it was me, I'd keep it only tiger barbs. There are tons of color variations to make a really nice looking tak. Pick a couple you like and have like a dozen each or something. Let us know what ya end up doing.

Sorry about the tetra thing! I used to have a glowlight tetra with a tiger barb a long time ago, and they got along fine! By the way, it's no longer only one tiger barb, I now have a regular, green, and albino tiger barb, too. May not be enough, just trying not to overstock my already overstocked tank. Sorry about the wrong advice, not trying to mislead you or anything, I'm only a beginner and I'm just basically telling you what I know from my experiences of my old tropical tank! Good luck!

No worries fishlord, I don't think she even came back and checked this. smile.gif

And I shouldn't have said that no tetra would work, I was just making an over-generalized statement that some tetras have the long fins that a barb would love to chase. And of course, it always depends on the individual fish too.

Also, I think three barbs is a great little school, they can chase each other and they probably leave your other fish alone for the most part, don't they? Good job in keeping in mind the stocking too, so many people forget about that part!

Oh yea, and there is no wrong advice (okay, sometimes there is, but what you gave wasn't wrong advice). You're just sharing your experiences like you said, and that's all anyone can do on here.

Soo, what else do you have in that tank of yours?

I have two Tiger Barbs, a Green Tiger Barb, an Albino Tiger Barb, a Gold Barb, three Glowfish, a Zebra Danio, a Gold Danio, an Albino Corydoras, a Bronze Corydoras, a Juhli Corydoras, a Plateus Corydoras, and a cute little Coolie Loach, a total of fifteen fish. I know, I'm WAY overstocked for a thirty gallon tank, I've heard thats the recomended stock level for a fifty-five gallon! But I have a real good filter that filters two-hundred gph, and I've been cleaning my tank daily to keep the params down and everything clean, and so far everyone is fine(except for a Panda Corydoras, who I sadly lost cry3.gif ), and once I get settled I think everything will be fine with frequent water changes. And yes, the barbs for the most part leave everyone alone.

Well, it's fourteen now. I lost my Albino Tiger Barb cry3.gif . I think he was sick from the beginning though, he was always staying in his own spot, away from the other fish, he never ate and was always doing some kind of twitching thing. At least that makes more room in my tank, too bad a fish had to go to make it happen, though.
