Trying to decide between Bio-Blend and Hikari for my ryukin (there are minnows and a snail in the tank as well). Pro Gold is out of the question for now. Which of the two are better?

hikari for me would win hands down for the reason that it does not contain ethoxyquin (which is carcinogenic, and and immune suppressant). bioblend does. <_<

Luke, I didn't know that about Bio-Blend, and I have it as part of their diet, about ever other day.....Does it cause problems at this rate, or is it only important if I would feed Bio-Blend as their only diet?

It really effects them if that is all your feeding them smile.gif

ethoxyquin is in a lot of fish foods...people foods too for that matter actually.

Many will tell you not to worry about it becuase it is a fairly low amount in most brands. But the risk is still there. many people never have trouble with feeding these foods though and their fish live long healthy lives smile.gif

I personally try to stay away from ethoxyquin, but i still on occasion feed a bit of tetra or omega one flakes that do contain it. I just try to think about it a bit, but if they get some of it i don't worry. Its just something to think about (check other pet foods, they often contain it as well).

Thanks Luke, for clearing that up!! A balanced diet is the best thing anyway!

Dahnuh--glad you posted this question! I just switched from Bio-Blend to Hikari and was wondering if I made a good decision. The Hikari that I bought floats unless I squeeze each piece after soaking it about 10 minutes. The ingredients are different as well, most of the Hikari is vegetable/plant-derived while BB is mostly animal-derived.
