I have a bunch of guppies here, and so far, the males are more than ready to go to a new home. Heck, I'm ready for them to go to a new home! So.....What do I do? Do I ask for a manager or the person who takes care of the fish? Who do I call? I am NOT giving these guys to Wal*Mart. So that leaves Petco, Petsupermarket, and a fish store that, as far as I could tell, only sells saltwater marine fish.

Do I ask for money for them, or just "donate" them? They're about the same size as my male when I got him, about an inch. I am keeping the females for a little longer so they can get bigger, then I'm going to give them up too.

Usually pet store chains like pet co, pets mart, ect. usually have contracts to buy only from a single supplier. Your best bet would be to take them to a LFS that is individually owned because those owners are always looking for a deal. The two LFS's that I sell to usually give me a fair market value for the fish I bring them but I always call ahead of time to make sure they have room for my fish. If I let them know ahead of time what I have then they don't order new stock to have room for my fish.

you can sometimes get reputable aquariums to take fish back, but don't expect them to give you money for them, they're doing you a favour by taking them back. yes, they might eventually sell them on, but if you think about the time, space and effort they need to go to, to QT them (as you are not a professional distributor, they can't assume that your fish are in a healthy state, even if you say so), they earn that money. Just what I've found when returning fish. You could ask for money, but don't expect to be greeted with smiles and cash.

Good news, I posted an ad on Craigslist, and a guppy breeder has contacted me about taking them smile.gif

What would you say is a fair price for them? I know the females are usually cheaper than the males.

She definitely wants them and has offered $1 for each one, which I accepted. Now all I have to do is figure out how to count the little buggers...rofl3.gif

She lives about 45 minutes away too, so they should be alright with the travel. Guppies are hardy little boogers.
