Im using the tropical flakes right now, im gonna switch off, even tho they seem to like it...

But i originally bought floating pellets which were intended for goldfish. I have since run out.

Why do they sell floating food (for fish that arent surface feeders) at all?

Doesnt it cause swim bladder disease?

Or is there an advantage to it?

I have some guppies too, and theyre obviously surface feeders, by the shape of their heads, so im not gonna worry about them.

Matt.

Goldfish, at least the ones outdoors, do feed at the surface, and there's no problem with them feeding at the surface necessarily, it's what they're eating at the surface. Most floating pellets have air in them (hence the floating) and that is what causes the problems - the unavoidable ingestion of air. The idea behind floating pellets is that it's easier to remove uneaten food, but that isn't a problem with goldies! smile.gif Floating pellets won't necessarily cause swimbladder issues, but there's no benefit to floating pellets and there are potential problems, so I'd suggest you feed sinking food or at the very least soak and squeeze the floating pellets.

Flakes and Pellets are two main foods people feed their goldfish. Flakes are easy to consume in their body system, as pellets are a little harder. Pellets are not so easy to digest. If you are planning to feed pellets, I would also get some flakes. As you may notice when you feed, your goldfish go crazy looking for food. They will eat the food as fast as they can. If pellets are eaten fast, your goldfish may become bloated. I would reccomend feeding a pinch or two of flakes, until your goldfish are calm and eating slowly then add a generous pinch of pellets.

why do they sell floating pellets?
well its probably because the bigger fish will eat a lot of flake
so pellets seem to be best for them
thats what happened to my fish
i use to feed them flake food but as they have grown 6inches+
i feed them pellets and flakes to save some money
