I have a betta, and he is absolutely beautiful (im gonna enter him in botm contest ir i can get a good pic

) but he lurks all the time. I just was wondering, since my other fish never lurk but my bettas always have. Are they aftaid of my goldies, (not a lot bigger than he is.....yet) or are they just shy? Just curious, there's nothing wrong with him.

Do you have your betta and your goldies in the same tank? If so, you should know that is not a very healhty relationship. Bettas tend to attack goldies, particularly their fins. A male betta should have it's own little home all to itself. No, it won't get lonely, as they are very territorial.
My betta likes to hang out under a certain plant I have in his tank. He did this a lot when the current was too strong in the tank, but now only sometimes. I think he is just resting. My goldies will do the same thing. There is one spot in the tank that they love to hide in and rest.

Yes, I do have them in the same tank, however if anybody picks (which is rare) the goldies (esp. my moor) pick on the betta! lol, but none of them have any nips, so I think they are ok. (the betta is smaller than my goldies anyways, but not too much). Yea hecomes out more, and like I said, there's nothing wrong with them, I was just curious why they like to hide more than the other fish. I like to know a lot about my babies!

my betta, whos in a bowl all by himself likes to 'guard' a clay vase that ive put in for him. ive tried other stuff like pvc, glass and plastic but he seems to prefer the clay. he just stays at the opening with his head poking out, probably muttering to himself lol.

Lol, mine either hides behind the intake at the top and eats air bubbles, or he hides in the vase that I bought at my lfs (it has a bunch of holes in it) and he hides in there, too. My black moor gets jealous some times and they chase eachother out playfully (no nips and they seem to enjoy it)

yes as mentinoned it is not really good for the betta to be in with goldies. goldies are a cold water fish and need temps from 62-72 degrees. Bettas are tropical fish and need temps from 72-80 degrees. If you mean by lurking that he is not very active? if So it could be that the water in your goldie tank is too cold for him. Bettas get lethargic when the water is below 72 degrees. You could make a nice home for him in a 1 gallon or larger bowl.

Oh,no no no, he's not lethargic

he just hides, he moves around all the time, between hidey holes. I was just curious why they liked to hide

.

that is jus their personality. Mine likes to hide behind his java moss in the tank and up behind the filter and back wall of the tank sometimes .
