I have 4 platties 1 female the rest are males and well they seem to be chasing 1 of the males really bad where his fins he clamps them when other get near him and hides most of the time. I was thinking bout moving him with my betta I dont have any other extra tank to put him in. Im not sure if its because we only have 1 female to 3 males and I dont have any room to get 5 more females to add to the group so theres 2 females per male. the 20 gallon house 5 neons and 1 large angelfish as well as the platties.
I was wondering if anyone has kept male betta with platties before?

i keep platys with my male betta

the betta leaves them alone and i have never seen him flare at them
the only problem with the platy and betta is the platy might get lonely with only one platy in a tank
platys like the company of other platys and a loney fish can get stressed and lead to disease
but if you think that the harrasing of the platy is getting so bad that he'd be better off by himself then i think the betta and platy should be ok.

also i think you could add 3 more female platys to your tank without overstocking
adding more girls might balance things out so they might leave the one alone

Fishies 12 brings good points.Maybe try them together and see how they react to each other first. I would try putting them together for a couple hours with you observing them the entire time in case you have to intervine and seperate them for some reason such as aggresion etc. If the male betta is by himself he may see it as an invasion of his territory when you put the other fish in and be aggressive. or he may accept the platy.. It is just trial and error . Each betta has his own personality. I have a male hm betta and I tried a snail in with him twice and he killed both of them. But the third snail I tried he loved an would make bubble nests for her. He would lay next to her and protect her when I came near the tank. She is in a seperate snail tank with female betta now. My theory is he sensed the male hormones the two males snails were putting off and thought they were a threat. He must have sensed the female was a female( she has layed numerous clutches) and not felt threantened

I had a female platy in with a female betta for awhile. The betta really didn't like it at first and would chase the platy if she got too close. Finally, though she seemed resigned to her new tankmate--maybe took about half an hour if that.
