Full Version: Best Setup That I Can Do In A 10 Gallon?

i have 2 filters, 1 is a topfin, 100 gallons per hour, and one is a penguin 550, 145 gallons per hour.
i have 1 common, i was wondering if i should use both filters? just one? if i should go bare bottom?
my tank is not cycled yet and since 2 fish just died in it im going to have to kill the already started cycle and start over again. is there anything i can do to speed up the cycle so that he can get into his bigger tank faster?
also, if i go bare bottom, can i put live plants in it still? i have an anacharis that grows quickly and looks nice and i want to keep it in the tank, bare bottom or not.

for the filters you should use both of them. as too much filtration in a goldie tank is good thing
barebottom or substrate is a personal choice what ever you like best barebottom's look very nice and are much easier to clean if you choose substrate it looks great as well the only thing is if you don't vaccum the tank weekly with either a siphon or python then toxic waste can build up under the gravel and leech into the water but if you do vaccum then there is a little chance that can happen. unless you have an established tank or know someone who does then there is really nothing you can do if you do know someone then you can take 50% of the water and that will help speed up the cycling process. but if i were i would just wait out the cycling process. with the plants in a barebottom tank you can either plant them in little pots or you can take a look at this link which is for thread i posted for tip of the month. biggrin.gif

hope i answered all of your questions i actually had a really long informative post already done but when i went to post it koko's server maxed out and i lost it so that is why this one may sound rushed

i cant wait for the cycling process because i only have 1 other tank its a 1 gallon with no filter, just air bubbles.
also if i put him in a rubbermaid, then the rubbermaid wont be cycled either so i dont see why i should put him in the rubbermaid.

if you put him in the rubbermaid you still have to do daily water changes and then it still won't be cycled but by putting him in a larger rubbermaid you give him enough room to swim around and this will prevent him from becoming stunted
