Let's start with the basics:
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 20
The tank is 10 gallons and has been cycled for about 2 months
Filter - whisper in tank filter 90gph
Water changes once a week, about 40-50%, I use amquelplus water conditioner
The only inhabitants are a single male betta and a black mystery snail
The only thing recently added is a live plant - I don't know what kind it is but it was properly QTed and betta was a little sick before I put it in
I feed the betta blood worms 3 days a week, betta bite pellet things 3 days a week, and nothing on 1 day - the snail gets sinking algae wafers.

I hope I didn't leave anything out. The problem is that over the past few days my betta has been spending a lot of time sitting on the bottom. He only perks up and swims around when I come up to the tank. He looks so unhappy cry3.gif - he also looks as though he might be slightly bloated, but not pineconed or anything (*whew*) thankfully. He has been eating fine up until today, he just ignored the bloodworm that I put in the tank. There are no visible signs of anything else, the snail in his tank is fine and the water quality is fine so I can't seem to figure out what it is. Could he be constipated? Should I feed him peas - if so, how?

Thanks in advance for everyone's help!

EDIT: oops, forgot pH is 7.8, it has always been the same, no crash or anything.

Any thoughts? Could it have something to do with him not liking the fluorescent light in the tank? I am going to go do a wc and see if that helps.

Water change didn't help...he seems to be having trouble swimming, he can get to the top of the water but it takes more effort then it used to. His breathing is slow and he is definitely slightly bloated. He won't eat anymore. Could it be SBD??? Anyone???? Help!!!

I just found this thread, and I am sorry that no one has replied yet. It is hard to tell in bettas, but can you tell if any of the scales are 'pineconed'? What about his eyes? Are they more bugged out than normal? I am trying to rule out dropsy first. Have you used any medications in the tank yet?
