Hi guys I have a 30 gallon tank up and running for a couple of months now.
Over the past couple of days my water has turned green...yuck!.
How can I get back my nice crystal clear water?.
please help.

dan in aus
umm actually green water is the best type of water for any type fish. i would not worry about it. but yes a uv steriliser would help if you want clear water again.

most fish owners really try to get green water as it filters itself all you need is an airpump with a stone. green water is what th monks tryed to achieve when they started breeding koi and goldfish thousands of years ago. if they got green water it meant a sign of good ownership and they were good at caring for there fish.

so in a way you are lucky for getting green water congratulations smile.gif

rofl3.gif exactly.gif All I want is a little extra algae growth, and I can't even achieve that. I don't know how people get GW not on purpose. smile.gif

Thanks guys ,being a newbie to the hobby I did not realise green water,
was so desireable.Sorry to those experienced hobbyists for complaining about it.
I guess its a matter of preference.
thanks for the replys though biggrin.gif

If you don't like it you can change half the water every few days until its clear again and scrape the sides clear. One warning, this will be a shock to your fish so go slow- don't do a 100% change for example. the spirulina (suspended algae = green water) is very nutritious. Once its gone be sure to provide your fish with a green alternative like occasional veggies/peas/algae wafers etc smile.gif .

I know , even a lot of experience hobbyists do not like green water. It is just a preference like you said. What is your decision? smile.gif

also, if you have the tank new a window, best that you move it away so it doesnt get much sunlight

exactly.gif , some people don't want green water, but they get green water.

I like green water, but I don't have it. All I get is little bit of green algae on the back of the tank.

I heard that it is hard to remove green algae. I tried myself. It is harder to remove than brown algae. However, it looks better.
