Howdy ya'll. I'm about to set up a new 75 gallon goldie tank. I'm planning on using an Eheim Pro 2026 in conjunction with a Penguin 350. I plan on staying a little understocked; maybe 4 or 5 fish--little guys; baby lionheads or ranchus. Think this is enough filtration? I also have an Emperor 280 I can slap on as well, but I'll skip it if it's not necessary. Thanks in advance for your advice.

As long as your filtration equals 750 gph or more, it will be enough smile.gif

Agreed with Jon here. Im not familiar with these filters, what is the GPH of them? It should say on the packaging. smile.gif

Ok; the Eheim is designed for aquariums up to 92 gallons at 172 gph. Penguin 350 is for aquariums up to 75 gallons at 350 gph. This, obviously, falls short of the 750 gph rule for goldfish at 522 gph. Both filters, however, are considered excellent. How can two filters; each designed for aquariums up to 75 gallons or beyond, not be enough? Canisters never have the gph turnover that HOB filters do....just curious--do any of you deviate from this rule? If so, what are your experiences? Thanks, Bean

you can get away with not having 10x filtration, but i wouldnt suggest it. goldfish are very dirty fish, so you would want alot of filtration

You *might* be ok if you stock super light but the fish will grow and then you'll be in trouble. Goldfish are incredibly messy and the water params will sky rocket without proper filtration.

okay i did some googling for you and the eheim pro 2026 has a gph of 251gph now for the penguin 350 that has a gph of 350gph you do not have enough gph with those 2 filters. the emperor 280 that has a gph of 280gph with all 3 you have 881gph which is enough for that tank so the 2 filters no but wioth all 3 you have enough gph.

also congrats on the 75gallon tank.

hope this helps

everyone posted while i was posting they beat me 2 it. i noticed that you said the eheim pro 2026 has a gph of 176 but when i was on the website for eheim pro it said that it has a gph of 251. but if it said 176gph on thte box i would go off that.

you need to negotiate for the price too. You may get $50-$100 off so that you can use that money to buy more filter

Oh, definitely will negotiate the price. DH is the KING of negotiators and has taught me well in that regards.

As for filters, by getting this tank and selling my 2 55gs, I'll have 4 AquaClear 110s to put on it if I need to. biggrin.gif

the lighting is cheap no biggy to replace that

id offer $300

$300 is where I'll start. I can get a 125 for $360 at Petsmart, but their cheapo stand is $500. Yikes. For our area, $400 wouldn't be too terribly bad of a price for this used setup, but I've been taught to always, always try to get a better price.

Tell me, though, where can I find cheap lighting? I've been looking for new, better lighting forever and all I can find are outrageous prices. If you know of a place, please let me know!
