Full Version: Ants?

I have a problem with ants being on my lily pads all the time. And they seem to do something (laying eggs?) because of which there are hundreds of tiny dots on the leaves. It makes the leaves look ugly and probably also causing it to die soon. Anyone else seen this before? I will try to post a picture later.

What is anphids? I never heard of them and can't find an entry in dictionary or wikipedia. So these are parasites which are feeding on the leaves? If so, how do I get rid of them?

Yes I have several fishes in the pond.

Thanks

i don't know how to get rid of them. But could u pick them off? Don't use any chemicals as it might kill the fish.

If you have aphids, buy ladybugs!

ants wouldnt lay eggs on leaves they lay eggs in their nest things i am pretty sure they have "queens" like bees do they dont just lay eggs anywhere. what color are the dots? so they move around or stay still? it is definatly not the ants but aphids are a possible choice they do eat plants and yes lady bugs would be a good idea(although i dont know where you would buy them) they love to eat aphids.

Yes, it seems like they are aphids. If I get very close to the leaves, I can see them But they are not moving much. So they are sucking the juice out of the leaves? How do they get there?

Thanks for the ladybug advice. But ladybugs will not last long on those leave since they are in water. Any other way to get rid of them? I guess chemicals are also out since they may harm fishes.

You should be able to blast aphids off your plants with a spray of water. Once the aphids are gone the ants will follow. No honeydew = no ants. Be sure to spray every morning so the plants will have all day to dry out. This will prevent your lillies from having any illness . Keep it up for a couple weeks and you should be fine.

Here's an article that may help:
