Full Version: Problem With My Black Skirt Tetras

Since a bad bout of disease (which I think was neon tetra disease) killed almost everything in my tropical tank a few months ago, my 3 black skirt tetras have not been themselves. They hide and only come out during feeding, and I noticed that one had a thick white growth on the tip of his tail.

I've since treated the tank with a few kinds of meds, I really don't think there could be any disease left alive in there..and I've added new fish which are thriving (neon and x-ray gold tetras). But yesterday I noticed one of the black skirts has white on the tips of a few of his fins now. It looks almost like scar tissue or something, not fin rot. Anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on here??

PS..it's a 20 gallon planted tank and all the water perams seem good. I'll try and get a pic but it could be difficult

Hmm...I am wondering if it could indeed be finrot? Or maybe fungus? Is it flat lines, or textured, like fluffy spots? A pic would be helpful, but I can see how that would be difficult. Hopefully someone else will come along with a better idea. smile.gif

Yep, I know it does sound like fin rot, but they've had it for months with no real deterioration..I figured fin rot would be much faster to develop. Also, after all the meds I figured fin rot would have been cleared up. The white areas are thick looking, not really fuzzy, but almost like small growths. Sorry, but the fish come out so rarely that I can't even see the spots very well. I'm wondering if maybe they've been nipping one another.

The good news is I'm moving on Sunday and that gives me a chance to take a good look at all the fish and give the tank a really good going over. Maybe after that I'll have more info/pics.
