I was at my LFS yesterday and noticed one of these.

Of course it was suggested that you use their refillable media at $14 a bag. I next went to Home Depot and picked up Window Air Conditioner Filter Pads, True Blue Filter Pads to be exact. A large bag was about $2 and viola! I was so pleased with the results I went out and picked up two more bags (identical to the media Marine Land sells) to hold me over the winter as well. I have a feeling I'll be hording this item come the end of summer.

It works like a charm...And I'm quite happy that I don't have to cut up the cartridges anymore. To replace the media or get the carbon out. Just thought I'd share in my discovery, it may not be a new thing but it was to me.

That's a great idea Kat! I have been using an Emperor filter that I cut and emptied the old carbon out of, alongside a media box filled with ceramic cylinders. But your idea would be much cheaper!! I will have to buy another media box.

I have a couple of those, that came with my Emporer 400. Nifty things they are.

These came with my emperor filters too, i agree, its a money and work saver. Makes things nice and easy when washing and replacing stuff.
