well today after school i went to a local petstore which shall remain name less. i was looking at the goldfish and they had a 2" koi labelled as a common i looked at it for awhile before realizing it was a koi. the dead give a way was that it had whiskers. i went and told the person who was working there and he got into a fight saying what would you no you are just a kid i work here, well i told him i was not leaving until they moved it into the koi pond and demanded to speak to the manager anyway the manager came and i told him what had happened and he moved it to the store pond which is rougly 750gals and has 2other koi in it. he let me name it and everything how cool. anyway these koi where his and it went into the do not sell pond display only until he could take it home to his 17 000gal pond. anyway i feel like i saved a koi from being put into some kids goldfish bowl by mistake or someone with less experience.
oh and btw mods i think i should have posted this in koi section so feel free to move it
i named it scully.

that was a good animal rescue you did! Scully(great name) is a lucky koi you spotted him and they will look at you in a new light when you next go in that store too... thanks for sharing the story . Hopefully Scully will have a long and happy life with the pond owner thanks to your save

That's a good example of bringing about a change by asking to speak to the manager. Well done! Hopefully it's not just a one-off and they will take more care in future, although in a busy store these things do happen, often staff are pleased to have assitance and feedback from their customers so they can put things right

You'll have to do another inspection soon

Great job, the koi will be much better off because of you, not to mention that the other goldfish in the tank are probably better off as well, koi can be agressive sometimes. :-)

ahhhh i am ticked off i guess they don't care what a kid says i went back today to check on scully the koi and guess what he is back in with the commons. if i had a pond big enough i would buy him he is about 12" so a decent size fish and he is in a tank something like 15" x 20" ahhhh he is something like $50 so i can not buy him. i know it is the same fish as he had a gold stripe on his dorsal fin. i feel like i failed him

Oh that's disappointing to hear... it sounds like the manager just fobbed you off

You've done your very best to intervene though, don't feel bad - there is a limit to what you can do short of buying the fish yourself, but that is quite a big commitment to take on. Don't feel bad.

Im sorry about Scully
At my lfs *name withheld* they have a pond that is about 4x4 feet big and have koi in there. But when i looked closer, there were comet goldfish too. Poor things were freaking out of everyone looking in there because they were only 2 inches and the koi were 5 inches+ I told the fishperson and they only took one comet goldfish out while there were like 10 others. I bet they just put comets in there because they had longer tails than commons and were then labeled "Koi" because of that... and so that they could get more money out of the comet goldfish with the price of a koi ><

fuzzy it depends some koi are fussy and will attack and kill any other fish apart from there selfs. as for goldfish attacking koi i have never heard of that happening before
