hi everyone i am just after a few answers for my questions

i am thinking of building a pond in my back yard and just have a few ?'s to ask

does it matter if the spot where i will put the pond gets full sun for about an hour? if so i was thinking of building a shelter type thing and have it over the pond.

what is better pond liner or those plastic ponds that i can just drop into the hole when dug out?
for filtration i was thinking of having a pump pump water through a rubbermaidish type container with some filter media in there and then have it trickle back into the pond via waterfall. is that enough or do i need more containers with more filter floss and media?

with the electrical work where i will be building it is reasonably close to the electrical work for our pool and i no there are power points there so i can plug in there. do i run the cords for the pump through some pvc pipes to make it water safe?

the size of the pond would be from 150 - 300gallons what ever fits the easiest in the space provided. it would just house goldies. what goldfish do better outside or do most of them?

thanks daniel

hey daniel. it is okay for the pond to be in some sunlight for about a few hours, just make sure there are places where plants, or other shade would be to shade your fish. i think a pond mold would be the best bet for you because of the size you are looking for, and it is easier not to try to get all the wrinkles out of a regular pond liner. i have a 2000 gallon pond and i had to use a regular liner becaue they dont make molds that big. as for the rubbermaid idea, for ponds that size i have seen it pulled off, just make sure the container is somewhat large. some good filter media for the filter box is just regular filter pads that they cut to your specifications at your local pond store. and good media for the biofalls container would be lava rock and maybe another filter pad. only change the biofalls container once yearly at the end of each season. if you do it more thatn that it will really mess up the chemistry in your pond. yes your pond should be near an outlet, or at least can be reached with an extension chord. we buried our chord under ground with some kind of chord housing (kind of like pvc, but metal) so you cant see it. i hope this helps, and if you have any other questions please ask biggrin.gif smile.gif bingo.gif
