My poor fishies! I came home to find them behaving oddly and then I noticed the water was very warm!
I put some ice in a bag and floated it in the tank until they started moving better. They seem normal now.

I will be putting a fan on them tomorrow and leave it running all day. is it ok to leave it on low? I am freezing some tubs full of water but they probably wont last long in the tank. I will be gone all day.

I would like some tips!

the water in the tanks was approaching 80 degrees! Mr. Liberace was very happy (betta). He made a nice bubble nest smile.gif

All of my tanks got up to 82° this weekend, but my goldfish were perfectly fine.

How's your aeration? Warmer water doesn't hold oxygen as well as cooler water does, which can lead to lethargy, gasping, etc. When temps started rising in my area several weeks ago, I added two additional airstones to my goldie tank.

At least a few people on this forum keep frozen bottles of water in their freezer, adding and replacing bottles as neccesary. I found this to be pretty impractical for me, since I work during the day and can't be at home to replace the bottles when needed (which was every 2 hours or so, at most, in my situation.)

Chillers (like a mini-fridge for tank water to run through) are an expensive, but pretty much guarantee-able option.

I would defintely give the fan a go, and see how much it's able to lower the temp. And if you have any spare airstones around, go ahead and pop those in. smile.gif

My tanks (both indoors and out) routinely run above 80 deg. during the Summer months here in Houston. It's generally not a problem as long as there is plenty of oxygen. It seems to me like putting ice in a tank wouldn't be a good idea as it could cause rapid, temporary and localized temperature changes.
