My house is getting pretty warm/hot because of our summer heat. This is my first time having a fish during summer. How do I keep my tank water from getting to hot? I have a 10 gallon with one bubble eye gold fish.
I don't want to FRY her!!
I am wondering if I should put some ice cubes in the tank. I just turned off the light because I think that give off too much heat.
thanks for your help.

I have the same thing going on. It's getting hot
but not enough to put the air conditioner on
in the house yet.
This came up on another post last week.
I put ice cubes in a sandwich ziplock and float it on
top till they melt.
Then I juust take the bag out and the cubes don't add
anything to the water because they didn't melt directly in to the tank.
Some other members here said the freeze a small water bottle
and let that float in the tank.
Another person said they keep a small fan blowing on thier tank.
I think I will do that next.
Hope some of these help.

Unless the water gets REALLY hot - up into the higher 80sF, I would not put icecubes or frozen material into the tank. This can create pockets of very cold water .... which can be stressing.
In times of warmer water, it is a good idea to add extra aeration. Add in a bubble bar or two. Lower your water level just a mite so that the waterfall of the HOB filter splashes a bit as it returns. Take off the tank's lid and aim a fan over the surface. Turn off the lights for the most part - only turning them on to feed or whatever.....
Your fish will be fine in quite warm temperatures as long as you have the water turning over well so that it incorporates lots of oxygen into it. Warm water holds less oxygen - so you have to really work it.
As usual, keep the water pristine and all should be good.

Some fancies actually prefer warmer temperatures anyway, I'm sure your little girl will be fine

I keep my home at 78degs during the summer and with lighting, my temps stay around 80degs. All my fish are doing fine. They do eat more at higher temps, due to the higher metabolism.

if you are worried just turn off your light so it would not get really hot.

My tank is 80-83 on a regular basis, and I've noticed if I float anything frozen, it only lowers about 1-2 degrees, so might as well not even bother. I am running my A/C more though, because of the fish, but even that is not lowering the temp. significantly. My fish seem to be very happy and healthy though, so I'm not even gonna worry about it unless it gets up to 85 or more.
