Hey! I am getting read to paint the room that I have the 30 gallon fish tank and the 10 gallon which has hermit crabs, and I was wondering what to do with the fish in the 30 gallon while i paint because the tank will have to be taken down and I dont want to set it up in a location where its not going to stay. If you could please let me know what you think that would be great. Thanks

Try to get a rubbermaid tub that's big enough or several tubs, if needed. Just use a bubble stone for a temp. solution. Painting shouldn't take long so they won't be in these tubs long.

I agree, most paint fumes will make your fish, hermit crabs, and any small animals very sick. Move them into smaller tubs with their filters temporarilly while you paint. Cover the tanks with damp towels, then when the paint is dry and there aren't any fumes left, uncover and do LARGE waterchanges before bringing the fish and their filters back to their original tanks. You may have slight bumps in the cycles, but its better than poisoning them :\

I wouldn't think that the filters would be necessary for that short period of time. I think that bubblers would be sufficient for a couple days. I could be wrong though.

Well the fish would be okay without the filters for a few days, the the filters would not be okay without the fish

3 days without ammonia in the tank could starve off some beneficial bacteria and cause a greater bump in the cycle.
