Hello every one……..first of all I must say that this is a nice and helpful forum….

I have a big problem……I have 2 Orandas…..the female is pregnant and I’m sure of that because I buy them ready to breed….

And other Gold fish with a male comet…..still with No eggs. sad.gif

What’s wrong with them? I lower the temp and start feeding them after separating the males and females……them left them one day without eating and gathered them again in the breeding tank……and still No eggs……I did not see any chase to breed?

Both of the females are rounded bally …..What should I do?

Shall I wait ? How can I encourage them to spawn?

welcometo.jpg and i would try and make them eg put 4 ice cubes in at night or in the morning beacuse it will lower the temp and then the temp will go up by a few degrees and that will make them spawm or put the females in a seprate tank for 5 days then put them back anything else

Don't put ice cubes straight in the tank loose. The fish will nibble them before they melt and damage their mouths.

lili, how do you know your fish are pregnant? Large stomachs are a sign of a well fed happy fish. On the other hand if a large stomach appears suddenly then it may an illness.

What do you mean by "ready to breed"-? Eggs only happen when there is active male pursuit. If you haven't seen that then I doubt that your fish is pregnant/gravid.

What size tank are your fish kept in? What are you feeding them and how many times? How long have you had them? Is your tank cycled? What temperature is the water? Let's start with this information and then help you from there. All this info is needed to give you advise on how to prepare your fish for spawning smile.gif

Well I am still unsure about how many gallons of water you have in each tank but fish need to feel they have space before they release eggs. It's natutral that a female will not want to release eggs in a crowded space, they would not survive and be competition for her space. Your temperature is fine.

If you have 10 gallons per fish (recommended) and you have a female and a male of breeding age and keep them in a stress free environment after some time they may breed. Most people here have found new fish do not. It takes a few years of disease free, good care for fish to feel ready.
