Hi all- I have a lovely 150 gallon pond with "rescued" commons and rosies reds from Petco. Two of my commons are over 2" long (I was quite surprised to find them in the feeder fish tank a couple of months ago), but most are closer to an inch. I have about 4 rosie reds too.
As I was sitting out observing a couple of weeks ago I spied fry!!! I was so excited as I have raised livebearers in my inside tanks, but never had fry from eggs ever. I assumed they were rosies since I didn't think my commons were old enough to be fruitful. I scooped a couple out and put them in a small rubbermaid "pond" with plants and some Pacific treefrog tadpoles I have collected locally. Is there a definitive way to tell which fish they are???? I scooped them up in a clear container yesterday and I think they might be goldfish based on the body. They are not as slim from top to bottom as I would expect Rosies to be. They have grown considerably since I grabbed them out of the bigger pond. I am thinking the other fry I saw in the pond but didn't manage to scoop out became fish food as I have not seen them in a few days.
Any ideas. I am so excited to be a mommy to egg laying fish!
thank!
