Bouyancy problems usually indicate a swim bladder that isn't functioning properly. This can be a symptom of a hundred problems ranging from "treatable" to "life-threatening."
If he seems otherwise capable of eating and doing other fishy things, he's probably okay. Do you find that he floats badly after eating? It may be a food-related problem. Be sure to feed sparingly and to pre-soak all food for at least a minute before feeding. In addition, add lots of green vegetables to his diet. Carp-derived species need lots of fiber in their diet to digest properly, so feeding things like spinach and broccoli help them move food through their gut easily and reduces stress on their swim bladder.
