Hey all

Okay well i was wondering what would be a good
filter for a above ground pond?
How mutch will it cost?
Do they sell them in Canada?

For my winter set up which is basically above ground ponds I have a filter that also flows water up into my upper tank. Then the water in the upper tank drains down through tubing with a sponge filter and then netting that has all of my good bacteria (the filter/pump does too). Then at the bottom of all my tubs are pipe which we sawed small slits into so that the water can flow from tub to tub. It's been working great.

Wish I could be of more help.

Thank you any way.

You need to decide how big your pond is going to be before you can figure the size of pump and filter. I found this site, it might be helpful to you?

http://www.pumpworld.net

they have a pump calculater. You put in the pond deminsions and it'll suggest the size pump you need.

With this then you can figure out what kind of filtration as well.

Now, here is some other advice for you. If you make your own filter it'll be cheaper. This is what many people do. For example trickle tower is one that many pond people use to keep the water crystal clear (the trickle tower is not used alone but with another filteration system with it). It's sort of a smaller version of what a stream does with the water in the mountains, the water trickles down through lava rock, which is placed in a large cylinder, and goes back into the pond.

Here is a link with several articles on different types of filters, how to make your own fitlers, and it is to help you decide what is best for you.

BTW, for those wondering I used to post on this board when it was an ezboard. I didn't register and didn't register and then my computer freaked and I couldn't access email and other saved stuff, LOL after a few months I finally got everything in order (3 days ago). Computer works, for now. I was RockHeaded.

I forgot to mention, when buying a pump or filter (if you don't choose to make one) you'd be wise to check prices. Look at the local prices then do searches on the net. It might take you a couple of days on the net, but I'd bet you could save at least 25 to 30% on anything ordering off the net. I bought a pump on the net that was offered here where I live. I would have bought it at the garden center but I didn't have enough money the day that I was looking at it. On a whim when I got home I decided to look it up, mainly because I felt I couldn't live without it and being on the net with it would make it somehow closer to home LOL. Anyhow, I found the same pump for 50% off the price here, and that was after the shipping charges were included!!!!!!! Now I buy all my pond equipment off the net. I don't have that kind of money to spend just for the convenience of it already being here. It'll get here withen 3 to 4 day in the mail and the savings is worth it. ( just a note The site that I posted earlier on this thread for pumps and filters isn't the cheapest, just are the only one I could find with the neat calculator feature).
