How long has the tank been set up?

By "Neons" do you mean neon tetras? If so, I don't think that's a good idea. First of all, the goldfish might eat them and second of all, they have different tempurature and water requirements. (But it might work anyway.)

Are there any other water stats that you can give us? They might be handy in determining how far you are in the cycle.

5 Nitrates is a little on the low side for a cycled tank.

From what I can tell, I think your tank is not cycled yet.

Edit: Typo

if you ammonia is 0 and your nitrIte is 0, then with the nitrAte being 5, the tank should be cycled. 5ppm is low nitrate, but thats good, you want to keep the nitrates low. i always try to keep mine under 10-15 ppm

All right, it sounds like your tank is cycled. smile.gif

Keep an eye on the neon tetras to make sure the goldfish does not eat them. But if they are doing good so far, I guess they will probably be fine.

If you have any ammonia or nitrites, then you are not cycled. Only 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and some nitrates equals a cycled tank. Also, you might experience a bump in your cycle when you add more fish since the bioload is not that strong yet. Keep a close eye on your parameters!

i would only add one more fish. the general rule for fancy goldfish is that one goldfish needs 10 gallons of space. smile.gif
