Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Goldfish Tanks > Goldfish plants, & how to set up a planted tank

I'm getting a 55 gal tank this month and I want some plants. Do I put the plants in when I start to fill the tank up with water or do I wait till the tank has been up and running for awhile.

Also its there any plants that dont grow really big. I want some small plants that stay some what small.

Onion plants dont make your tank stink spit.gif.......That was a good question but made me laugh spit.gif

The brown on the plants is algae, wich to me is not good quality of plants, you should go with plants that are nice a green and no dieing leafs.

When you get your tank place the substate in the tank then fill water only about 4" of water then I place the plants in the substrate. Then slowly add water to the tank. Let the tank run for a while with no fish like about 24 hours. If you can save some water from the old tank and use that to seed the next tank. Also gravel, filter anything from the old tank will help speed up the cycling of the tank biggrin.gif
