I don't know if he's sleeping or what, but all day today my male guppy has been bottom sitting.

I had him in with everyone (2 females, 1 rasbora, 1 barb) and then I moved him into a 1 gallon all by himself, then I put a divider in the 5 gallon and put him in there on a side by himself. This was all over the course of a month, so it's not like he's in shock still. Just these past 2 days he's been acting off and hanging out on the bottom. I thought the Rasbora was slipping thru the barrier (it's just a piece of sewing canvas cut to fit, there's a small gap on either side) and harassing him, but I've watched and it doesn't fit.

Could he just be depressed because he's not in with the females? Everyone else is doing great, it's just him.

The other side of the divider, with the 4 fish, is the side with the filter, so they get all the current, I know it isn't as strong on the other side, because the plants hardly move. I have Java Ferns, Pearl Grass, some kind of straight bladed grass that looks like plain old grass, and White Ribbon plants. None of them are really mature yet. They've all been in there over a month.

I don't have any water test strips (ran out about 5 months ago) and I don't have money to buy more, but the water smells fine. It doesn't smell like cat pee (ammonia) and it doesn't smell stale or poopy. It's just slightly fishy like everyone else's tanks.

Nevermind. I put the Barb in with him and he perked right up again.

Oh good smile.gif . Perhaps he was lonely then.

I'd still take a sample of the water to your LFS and have it be tested just to be on the safe side.Water can smell fine and yet not be right-especially if a fish is bottom sitting. The fact that he's now acting okay because you added the Barb, doesn't necessarily mean that he is now okay,as some fish naturally stay away from other fish, and he may be just doing that, and yet still not feeling well.
What size tank is this, and how often do you do maintainence with water changes, etc?
TetraLover
5 gallon, and I do a half change once a week and a full change every 2 weeks. Which means it gets rearranged every 2 weeks because of the live plants @.@

He's in the middle/top area of the water right now, and they're all staring at me....I think they're hungry, I haven't fed them yet today.

Weeel, guppies are schooling fish, so maybe he was lonely, but I would check the water, just in case wink.gif .
