smile.gif hello all, this will be my fishies 2nd yr in pond. the pond did well in the winter and now its beautiful heartpump.gif one question though how much should i really be feeding them? ive been giving them tiny bits daily and being careful not to over feed. i do check my water and the quality is good. the pond is established with tons of plants, insects and algae on the sides. just curious on how much they should be getting from me?

Well, what I like about ponds is that quite a lot of natural food comes along for the fish to eat - algae building up on the walls, mosquitos and other insects falling into the pond.
It also depends on the size of the fish, and if its koi or goldfish. My hubby feeds his koi once a day with big koi pellets, and he just tosses a handful of them into the pond.
My goldfish get fed twice a day with soaked food, bloodworms, and they have the algae to eat. I watch them eat for a few minutes, and if there is still food left after that, I give them a little less next time. You kind of develop an eye for it, and with watching you'll also figure out which ones are the food horders that gobble up more food than the others. smile.gif

I feed my fish pellets twice a day in the Summer. Sometimes three times if they are really hungry. smile.gif

My 10 Koi get 6 handfulls in the am, and fruits, vegies or other things in the evening.

I give them floating stick (forgot what it is called) broken into small pieces in the morning. In the evening some more sticks and blood worms. They are always hungry... I guess the algae on the side walls are not enough

i usually feed mine 2 times a day and they gobble it down and would probably eat more especially the commons/commets

Hello Julie,
I feed my goldfish once a day. I currently have six in 100 gallons stock tank. I also put two hardy water lily and water lettuces in there. They have been there about three weeks. The small ones have grown quicker than in the tank.
