my 55 gallon tank has a 60 gal power filter a undergravel filter and a 265 gal canister filter

I think the only time you would have to worry about too much filtration is if the water flow is pushing your fish around. If it is, you could try placing the tank decorations to break up the flow and provide quiet spots.

yeah ill second that as long as you break up the power of the current it will be fine it will also cut down the noise for you as well smile.gif so if the tank is in your room you dont need to stuff your ears with pillows like i do sometimes lol.

also it can be bad for some fish like gourami and angel fish who are used to very still water and so their bodies can not handle it quite as well.

It does sound like a lot of filtration for a tropical tank and you could probably get away with less, but generally speaking the more filtration you have on any system the cleaner and healthier the water and thus fish will be. I agree with the others, the main concern would be the current produced by the filter outflows but that is to some degree managable smile.gif
