Full Version: Red Streaks On Ventral Fins

Lyndra
60 gallon, rena-2 AC10, 6 GF. ammonia 0, Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10 PH 7.8

All fish acting fine and healthy. Only my red Oranda developed bright red streaking on his 2 ventral fins that radiated toward the tips like sunbursts. He is acting just fine. Swimming energeticly and chasing after food. This morning the red streaks are fading. I think it is perhaps an injury? My fish get pretty rought with each other, particularly in the morning when they all seem to be involved in a game of "twister". Who knows what that's about. Anyway, has anyone ever seen this?

PS Devs.... I didn't run to the store for meds! I'm getting better I think! rolleyes.gif

exactly.gif Devs knows that jumping the gun with most meds can do more harm than good. Medications aren't needed as much as one would think. It sounds like your goldie became stressed out a bit. I could be wrong but you could be seeing breeding behavior. Either that or your goldie became slightly stressed from bullying or some other input. I've seen these red streaks come and go with many goldfish and if their appetite remains strong and the water is kept clean then theres not much to worry about.

Good luck and keep us updated! biggrin.gif

I'm with Paul, if a fish gets stressed sometimes their bloodvessels dilate, and it's quite noticable in their fins, -females can get pretty stressed out by the constant badgering of males in breeding mode. ( I had a girl who got so stressed she develop finrot from being constantly harrassed by a lust filled male who was twice her size! ohmy.gif ) -The vessels should constrict and the fins will look less red as the fish stops being stressed. smile.gif
