The main problem here is that i see the beginnings of dropsy, he looks more puffy than usual, and when i look at him from above i see a little pineconing. my dilemma is that i don't have enough money to go out and buy all the things that would be required to treat him, my mom says "its just a fish". she doesn't understand. i don't want my fantail to get it because i've had her the longest. should i euthanize my oranda? i don't want it to suffer and i can't provide everything it needs.... i'm so sad right now cry3.gif

A fish can bloat and scales can raise a bit,and still may not have full blown Dropsy. As we know it,it's a symptom of something else bothering it.I had an Oranda that would begin dropsy on the slightest of water temp changes.I'm looking at your readings and I see a Nitrite reading of 0.25.If your tank is cycled, then your readings should be 0.Any time a fish sits in ammonia/nitrites,they can and do indeed get sick. You need to do some water changes with treated and matched temp water and get those levels pristene. How much/what do you feed this fish? How many times a day? When was the last time you saw him poo?Does it look normal-brown/chunky.thick long brown,or white stringy poo? You also have to be careful when feeding one regular item such as bloodworms.Do you soak them before adding them to the tank,if not because that is his daily food,he could be catching alot of air,and even becoming constipated. How often are you feeding the peas? It is in the best interest of your fish to give it a more nutritional and varied diet.
Does your fish have any other signs/symptoms,such as frayed/torn fins-red spots or sores, swelled gills or dark spots on the gills/any spitting food?

hey devs, i feed them both once a day in the morning. They get the goldfish crisps sometimes (soaked), peas, and freeze dried blood worms. not all at once ofcourse! i alternate between days. when i give them the crisps i don't feed them for two days after then feed them peas then a day between i give them the bloodworms. and the cycle repeats! he still eats healthy, nothing unusual. his poop has been the color of his poo but sometimes it has been white with some brown. i do have maracyn two on hand and a 14 gallon tub. but not an extra filter or a heater... i will do a water change today then to get my params perfect. what should i do though? separate them? i don't want her getting it if it is dropsy

well, he passed away this afternoon cry3.gif cry3.gif cry3.gif so i tore down the entire tank cleaned it all put brand new water in there put a new filter floss thingy in it (it was time to anyway) and my one fish left is in the tank again, with her brand new water but i just noticed that she pooped out black poop...i haven't fed her in 2 days... did i do the right thing by tearing down the tank? is there anything i can do to make sure she doesn't already have dropsy from him?
