I posted some request for names too, not too much help yet. Congrats on the new pond it looks awesome.

How about snow for the white fish. Even with the light yellow orange in the tail it works. you know what they say about yellow snow!

- woo hoo, love that pond !! well done ...

about the plants ... I just got home from the lps ... I got all sorts of plants but only have their scientific names and I would have to out there digging around in all the tags ... burr that water is cold.

So I'm of no help till the sun starts to shine.

Thought though I could post some pics soon of the plants I bought with their scientific names, lemme know. Congratulations ...it's truly beautiful.

Excellent pond! Did you put it in yourself or have some help with the digging?

Hmmn, you could call the white fish 'milk' and the orange fish 'cookie' and the sarasa 'strawberries and cream'. biggrin.gif Just a few names with a food theme, I must be hungry. lol

What kind of fish are the white and orange ones? If they are Koi then that pond isn't big enough for them. You'll find that fish change colors a lot so I wouldn't worry about the white tail starting to turn yellow.

sorry it took me so long to reply the other 2 are not koi they are common gf (i meant to say that but oh well) and my dad dug up for the pond along time ago (we just never put anything in it before) they are still doing well but one of the plants it not growing so i am going to have to fish it out and return it probably. they are still doing well but the white ones tail is even more red know like a jikin(i know that isnt what it is) but it is colored like that only the tail is turning colors not the rest of the body i bought this stuff that is suppused to keep algea from growing but it doesnt seem to work very well thanks for all of your compliments.

If you are using something to suppress algae growth, that could very well be what is killing your plants.

I would recommend using something natural like barley straw ( http://www.aquabotanic.com/barleyarticle.html ) or a good bacteria enzyme boost like you'll get from Ponzyme or a similar product. A boost of beneficial bacteria and enzymes creates some competition for the nutrients that the algae use.

You will never stop it completely. There will be on and off blooms of green water or string algae. It will eventually be a thin blanket on the walls of the pond if it is a balanced pond environment. It's best to control it with good filtration and natural means like bacteria and enzyme treatments. Chemicals in general will kill the other plants, and can't be very beneficial for the fish.

Good luck,

it is supposed to be ok for plants and it isnt killing the plants the one is doing great the other one wont grow itis like a seed and when you put it in the water ot will start to grow.
the pond is more like 150-200 rather that 50-100

the barly just seems kind of expensive you only get a little square for about 13 bucks so that is kind of expensive or i would get that. thanks though

I wanted to ask you if you were running a filter on your pond, I did not see it in the photos! Unless its the white thing at the top of the pic. If so, can you explain what it is and how its working for your pond.
ilovefish
no it is not a filter it it just a container i am keeping pond supplies in. the nearest electrical outlet is about 200 feet away so i cant really plug in a filter and i they are pretty expensive around here. they are less expensive on line and stuff but shipping would be bad and i would be afraid it would get broken and i try to take about 1/2 of the water out weekly and change it so it doesnt get bad i wont be getting a filter unless my dad moves the pond which he plans on doing this summer(like that`ll happen haha) he always piles a list of stuff to do and never gets it done. but so far they are doing well they white one is even more red and the other 2 are doing well also algea is growing though grrr i guess ill have to splurge and get one of those barley things for the pond hopfully that helps maybe it will clear up. the water is green right now b/c of the algea so it is hard to see the fish sometimes but if when they come up to eat you can see them well.
ill try to take some more pics at the end of the summer to see the progress they have made over those months.
