I think they said it was 500 gal. We have had it about a year and 1/2. These pic's are from last summer, I'll add more when more things are in bloom. It's better than the pool I think, I really enjoy it and we have the view from just about every room in the back of our home. It's great to fall asleep and hear the water rushing.
The turtle Shelly was a rescue. A friend found her roaming the streets during a heat wave. No one claimed her after posting signs so she was the first thing in our pond. Since she is a water turtle I think someone let her loose, maybe because she got to big for a tank. She is not really friendly and afraid of everything. But she goes crazy when I give her left over sushi. She never bothers the fish even new little ones and comes out everyday to sun bathe.
The rest of the family in the pond is a:
2 year old Telescope, so hes big, we just got him.
2 shubunkins
high fin shark
6 Koi in assorted sizes and colors
They all seem happy. We lost 2 of my prettiest Koi last summer to a Blue Heron (I'm still grieving) but I installed a scare crow and hung reflective things from the tree so That should keep him away.
Thanks, glad you like it

Awesome pond. I'm drooling over it. Any chance we can get a scenery shot from a distance to see the whole thing?
Im sorry to hear about your Koi but please let us know how the scarecrow works out. My parents have a huge natural pond. The pond was made by them using the dirt for their pad when they built the house. They've had carp that the county put in but they were taken by hawks. We restocked with some bass but a otter just layed waste to them.

No dani, Shelly never walked around. She was a rescue turtle and never really warmed up to people. She would come out and sun bathe until the sun went down.
I miss her. Since I posted these I had to find her a new home. After being in the pond for over a year and never caring about the fish, one of my new small Koi went missing and a few days later my Telescope goldfish 3 inch long tail was chewed of including just about every fin on his body. He's in my hospital tank now and looks like his tail is growing back.
So we found Shelly a new home to protect the others. She is in a pond by herself with a family that only has turtles for pets.
Water turtles really don't roam much, since they have to eat in water & I think rest in it to.

Thanks and good luck Dani, did you see the other post that someone showed the step by step of thier pond being built? Go take a look.
We had our pond built for us, but one thing they did you might want to check out is install an automatic fill. When the water level goes down it gives it a little water to keep it at the correct level. this really helps so you don't have the accident of forgetting the hose on, or by adding to much water that it changes the water quality.
I must say other than fighting algea, my pond takes care of itself.

wow you have a big pond, can you show pic's ?
maybe your Koi did breed and the babbies are hiding, I just found 3
in my pond and have them in a tank now til they get bigger to live in the pond.
Didn't the spawning season really just start? i thought it's in spring & summer for the warm weather.

Yeah, I was going to say "watch out for the fish with a turtle", since most aquatic turtles will go after fish eventually. I am sorry you had to give her up.
I had two guppies that I originally bought in a group of 10 as feeder for my aquatic turtle, and those two leftover guppies lived for two years with the turtle. She just wasn't interested with the fish anymore, and both guppies grow big and fat in that pond. When I had to find a new home for my aquatic turtle, the guppies went with her.
