The plants at the pet store are so expensive and I need plants for about 10 1 gallon containers. Would either plastic plants or silk plants from the craft store work? Will the fish be ok? Any type in particular that is better or worst?

Ive heard of people doing this but to honest thats all I know. I would think as long as they dont have any weird coating on them any would work.
Why not some real plants? If you get a batch of wornwort it works out well and most pets stores well these in huge bundels when mone start to shed I just throw them out and buy more. About 5 dollors a bunch. My bettas just wiggle up in them and go to sleep. hehe
Or water spirt. It looks nicer and seems to last longer once you get it going. I keep having to throw some in for the goldfish to eat about once a month.

I would love real plants, but I don't have lights on my containers. Right now I have 19 bettas each in 1 gallon containers and I have about another 10 bettas coming in the next week or so. I just use the ceiling fan light during the day and nothing at night. I have looked at real plants and I think they would be awesome, but without proper lighting, I am afraid they will die.

Window light would work just fine for a few little floaters. And since you have to do 100 percent weekly water change on 1g tanks ( or should) you wont have to worry much about the green glass. Just wash it off. Why not try it in just a few of them see how it goes?
I dont have "lights" on any of my 1g tanks. I have one near a window and the other two are by my desk lamp.
Edited for spelling and some grammer that jumped out at me.

I think I might just try that. I am going to go to the pet store this weekend and check out some small plants. And yeah the water gets changed once a week if not more often. That's why I did the whole 1 gallon thing. So much easier than cleaning a bunch of divided 10s.

Silk plants and flowers are okay, but you must be very careful. If color starts to fade off or rust spots seep through the plastic, you should discard them. Other than that, rinse, seal wires with aquarium sealant, cure, then add to tank
