all my goldies in my tank except the baby (he cant afford to be choosy) all spit out the yellow and brown flakes and only eats the red ones. they hoover it up in disgust afterwards but does anyone else have this problem?

thats sought of the same with mine
they prefer to eat the red ones before going for the green ones
i don't know why though
might be the colour

On the container of the Goldfish Food Flakes that I feed my Comets, it states that the ingredients are Fish meal, Fish meat, Soy Flour, Plankton and Fish egg. It could be that the reddish coloured flakes are perhaps some type of fish meat that is preferred by the fish.(Perhaps shredded prawns?) I guess a little bit like us with a preference to certain foods! This preference of red or pink coloured flakes is also shared by my Comets.

I some times feed my fish fruits.
All my other fish hate banana but the telescope loves it!

wow, you have one picky goldfish, my goldfish eat any coor, they aresooo greedy, but Tiger - Lilly ( my orange and gold fantail) prefers the green.

initially they arent picky
but when they are moderately full
they will go for the red ones first

Maybe because they wouldn't go for the red ones first, but of corse smelling and tasting is a another way they could know to go for the red ones.
