Cyclops passed away during the night unexplained.A 50% had been performed yesterday evening he was dead this morning. He had been off color yet on sunday he was fine.

Test Results Taken this morning after Dysons removal due to him being odd way Cyclops was.

pH 7.6 (best I have ever had)
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0

Filters

Fluval 3+
Fluval 2+

Tank

30 Gallon just 2 fish
no new fish

Tank been running for over a year

Weekly water changes,King British Safe Water and Safe Guard water conditioners.King British Goldfish Flakes.

Unusual Findings

Fish lethargic not as active however appetite normal.
Noticed Filter media had turned a blood red color-so suspecting gravel is part of problem
A ornament that was also introduced to tank has strange growth on it.Plan on getting microscope to look at it.
This ornament was introduced a few weeks prior to Chance (Lionhead) and Piranha (Dojo Loach) behaving odd.Now Cyclops life has been taken.
Dyson was lethargic this morning but since removal and being put in established tank he has picked up and is more himself.
Due to color of filter media and odd growth on ornament I have reason to believe toxins at are being released from both gravel an that ornament.

The tank is to be stripped totally gravel ornaments disposed off.

Any ideas please as I am aware the cycle had also crashed reason I dont know as its never been a problem before.

Oh Blue I am sorry to hear of another loss for you.

You may be right though with what sounds like something not right with that ornament.
What type of material is it made out of?
Is it especially for aquariums?

Blue
Hi laurie.

The ornament was on sale in a pet store aquarium section it was labelled for use in aquariums.
It was heavy but it was a painted ornament upon examination yesterday the paint is pitted in places where the growths have been.
This isnt first time i have had probs with ornaments ment for tanks.I will no longer be buying gravel or ornaments from this store and all my tanks will now be barebottom for the safety of future fish.
On a good note Dyson is himself once more hoovering the tank floor. My only concern is how long it will take for any toxins to get out of his system.
LaurieP
I see, glad to hear he is doing a bit better.
Wish I could tell you how long that would be, but I can't. It will depend on what if any toxin has already done.
