What do you mean his wen is shrinking? I've never heard of that before...? Any high protein foods would be good for wen growth - shrimp, blood worms, certain pellets, etc.

Pro-gold, Omega One brand, Hikari brand, bloodworms, anything with high protein content.

the higest protine food ive ever use and heard of is omega one freeze dried shrimp. (not brine shrimp, Just shrimp) smile.gif

I feed my fish a mix of Hikari Lionhead pellets and SF FD bloodworms all the time. I feed em the bloodworms here and there. I don't care too much that I feed them (bloodworms) quite often. So far, so good. Although if I had a bigger tank they'd grow SO much faster and greater in size.

It's always ok to feed variety! More important is quantity- make sure you are not overfeeding.

Make sure you get some vegetable matter in your fish as well as protein - one cannot live on steak alone smile.gif

The wen may not actually be shrinking. The fish may be getting bigger while the wen is staying the same size, making the wen seem like its shrinking

I was thinking the same thing as this was happening to one of my Redcap Orandas! Nice big wen, then it started to look smaller and smaller and then I realized the Redcap had grown in lenght quite a lot!

As far as wen growth, all the above members have given you great suggestions with different foods. High protein is a good way to go, but also genetics will play a big roll in how big the wen grows and also the care the fish got before you got it. I have also read that some feed their goldfish eggs to promote growth and have also seen tofu listed. Also gel food can be made that are high in protein with tuna and sadines.
