Ok, through a complete acident my mom overdosed 4 of myy bettas with Melafix. She read the directions wrong. This was while I was sick so I understand she was just trying to help me out. I still have one betta in my 2.5 gallon.

Well, today I went into LPS to buy some rat food and bedding. My LPS had 3 fish that caught my eye; one purple pineapple super delta, one copper half moon and one yellow and orange dalmatian marble double tail(lots of fin damage though). I snatched up the copper halfmoon. Right now he is in my 10 gallon QT tank until i go to petsmart to buy him a 2.5 gallon and filter.

He has some fin damage which I'm only treating with slat right now. I'm not sure if its fin rot or nips. Looks like nips.

He needs a name. I was thinking of Cerberus.

Whoa what a nice betta to be found in an LPS! The fin should heal fast, no worries about that.

Btw, looks more like a rosetail to me, due to the very extensive branching

Yup, for now I shall call him a HM. If his tail makes a full recovery and looks like a rosetail then thats what he is. Right now, I can't tell the damage from his normal edge so he is just HM. In fact I think he is OHM because his tail goes beyond the D shape when he fully spreads it. I need to get better pictures, but for some reason, taking photos of my 10 gallon is hard.

Good to hear that everyone agrees it doesn't look like fin rot. Thats what I thought at first too. Hes not all ragged with holes. I bet he was doing some munching due to stress from being shipped to the store from wherever they order their bettas.

I'm sorry you lost some of your Bettas Sushi, I know how important they are to you.

I do want to say though, that new betta is beautiful! I love his coloring and his fins are stunning.

His official name is Giacomo. It was going to be Cerberus but I like Giacomo better.lol.

I will defiantly try to get some more pictures of him taken. Ah- no I don't think I will get the others. I'm busy raising Mantid nymphs so no more room for aquariums.

Sorry about your bettas. But still I love the coloration of your new one. I wish my lfs/lps had bettas like that.

I bet if you ask them to, they can contact the breeder they order from and see if they will send in some fancies. I've yet to personally ask but the manager of a store near me(not the same store I bought Giacomo at) always tells me to write down any fish I want and they can always check into finding a place to order them if they don't get them in stock.

I am so sorry for your loss Sushi. your new boy is beautiful. Yup he probably munched his tail due to stress from shipping. He should heal up well. My Sunti munched his tail when the breeder sent him to me. you were very lucky indeed to find such a good quality betta in a lfs . Congrats. i love purple
