Hey all!

I have had a long and stressful week. Last night, I was planning on a quick water change, so I could get to bed. Unfortunately, that was not in the cards. As I was carrying my 3 gallon bucket from the bathroom, the handle broke off of one side. This cause the bucket to swing forward, launching ALL of the water across my living room floor, washing all around my modem (on the floor), into my dog's bed, under the bird cage (yes i have a lot of animals wink.gif) as well as around the power strip for all my fishy equipment. It took every towel I had to dry up the mess, then I had to have fans running all night to make sure the wood floors were all the way dry (don't want to lose my deposit when I move out). Then had wait for the towels to dry. The water change I hoped would take 30 min or less, ended up keeping me out of bed for about 2 hours. It was awesome.

Congratulations. You have taken your first step towards being a true fish keeper!

GOsh, I hate it when that happens. It never fails - when you think you can accomplish something quickly - and that is when the worst happens. I am sure it is something to do with the fact that you are working quickly and not as methodically as usual, but....

GRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Sorry about your floor. I hope there are no lasting repercussions.

Handles breaking. Tripping over a kitten dashing between the legs (my recent spill). Having ahose pop out when you are gone emptying a bucket - coming back to a room awash in water....

Isn't it fun? Keeps you on your toes.

Everything seemed dry and no apparent damage was visible this morning, so I think all is well! smile.gif Thank goodness!

I think I'll invest in a Python today. My friends with fish all rave about them.

i had the end of the siphon fly out of the bucket making a big mess biggrin.gif

Yes, Pythons are a godsend! I'm glad nothing bad happened, that's so scary to get water around your ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT!! ignore.gif

I had a similar problem, only it was 100% my fault. I was filling a bucket with fish water with my syphon, when my dad asked me to help him with somethin. So I went down stairs and helped him. (without removing the syphon) then I got distracted with somethin else, and decided to go back upstairs. I was like OH CRAP! The water was runnign over the bucket for like several minutes! water got soaked into the carpet, so I had to get a shop vac and try to soak up as much as I could. After it got cleaned up, it still took another three days to be 100% dry (my room is stuffy). At least that was with the 20 gal i was borrowing, and not my 55gal. Oh man I can't imagine what it would be like if it was 55gal!

At least now you can laugh about it! Daryl is right, until youve had some kind of mess, you cant call yourself a fishkeeper!! rofl3.gif

We should give awards for degrees of water disasters. That would be fun!

Oh I remeber my first water mess. I had Seth "helping" me. (He was 2 then) This was before I had a python and he liked to hold the hose. As you may know 2 years olds are easily distracted. He let got of the hose and water went all in the carpet. Fun!

I am glad everything turned out all right with your floors and the electronics. biggrin.gif

my accidents usually come when I am getting the siphon started. I usually don't get it in the bucket fast enough!

I have often thought that if I were to write a book about fish keeping I would call it "Wet Socks" smile.gif

Hmmn, I had one just the other day, and then the day after that with the same problem. Had a leaking seal in the plumbing of one of my cannisters, located under my 200gal tank! krazy.gif krazy.gif Thank goodness I got to it before more than a few gallons had dripped out. Spent ages, with Dave, working out a solution and thought we'd fixed it... next morning, yet another huge pool of water dripped out from under our tank. Worked out it was the connector that goes into the cannister had an O-ring missing. thank goodness I had a replacement for it. whew! biggrin.gif

Ugh! I feel for ya'! I've had that happen. More often than not it is my two year trying to "help", or it is my own stupidity. Sometimes I start pumping water without realizing that the hose is outside the bucket blink.gif And all my floors are carpeted, so you can imagine the mess!
