For those of you who didn't read my post last week, I bought some new fish and while I was ensuring that their quarenteen tank was ready, I floated their bags in my 20 gallong tropical to keep them warm. Well, when my back was turned the bags came open...and all the fish/water went into my tank. Within a day my fish started to die. One of the new corries I had showed signs of pop eye and had red spots when I scooped him out (dead) but other than that the other fish just seem to spontaniously die.

This has been SO frustrating because my tank was so well established and healthy. In the past week I've had all of my penguine tetras, half of my neons, cories and guppies die. I haven't been home today to check, but I wouldn't be suprised if more have died. I'm just happy that my black skirt tetras (my favorites) have made it through....so far.

When I contacted the pet store where I bought the new fish from the guy I was talking to was really sympathetic, he said they got a 'bad' shipment of fish and there have been a lot of problems, he also said that if he'd been working when I bought my new fish that he wouldn't have sold me the ones I got because they were just in (grrrrr...why couldn't the girl who was working have thought of this!?!?!). Anyway...the point of my rant is....I've been medicating with melafix and I'm wondering if I should use something stronger (tetracyclin maybe?). Any opinions would be great. After the die off has stopped I would like to restock my tank, but I want to know that whatever caused it is gone.

Ponderosa Power
Melafix is very weak and I'd use something stronger, definately.

That's what I figured, I just didn't want to crash my system/hurt my plants sad.gif . As of now the deaths have stopped, my black skirts, cories and 2 neons made it through. I think I'm going to dose the tank with TC just to be safe.
