He IS cute! Looks like he's peeking out to see if it's safe. tongue.gif

About the fin--I have a female betta with a bent ventral fin (the other one is normal) and it doesn't seem to stop her at all. She was that way when I bought her but she's so pretty otherwise I don't mind it. Here's a pic that shows her crooked little fin.

As for light--some of my bettas hate the flash from a camera but most ignore it. I don't have a hood light type thing on them at all but I would think they need a place to hide in the shade if they want too.

Have no idea about air bubbles!

I am sorry I don't know what to tell you about the fin I hope it is okay, and your fishy is a cutie.
As for you questiona about the light and the bubbles I thought I could share with you that my betta was recently moved into a bigger tank with a air stone and LOVES the bubbles, he likes to swim through them playing like a young guy again biggrin.gif He did not like the bright white light from the new hood but when I tried some amber lights that are dimmer he did not seem to mind. the amber lights give a very unique coloring to his tank so I like it. He never had light before this new tank.

It probably depend on the fish though, if you add the light or the bubbles and your fishy seems disturbed by them you can always adjust or take them away, the good thing about bettas is that I find they are good at letting you know what they do not like exactly.gif .

Good luck with your new little one! heartpump.gif

Well.. I dont think the bubbles -bother- him persay.

He actually like.
Loves them.. I think.
He tries to nip at the bubbles. and basically wont leave it alone.

Otherwise he seems okay
2 more,new concerns!
I have a 'prickly' bush type thing in his tank, its almost the EXACT color as him. its pressed up pretty close to a wall, BUT he LOVES to go between it and the wall. and sometimes will stay there. he also seems to sometimes get stuck, panics, flares, and then gets out.
Should I move it or trade it for a less prickly bush?

And.. I think he see's his reflection in ALL the tank walls. theres no background on his tank (I keep forgetting EVERY TIME I go into petsmart >:o)
He flares at EVERYTHING. (Even me. smile.gif Which I lol and proclaim "stopppppp flaring. I can eat you. >:[ )
Will this injure him?
Any way to -stop- the reflection thing?
e_e
He seems happy though in his 5 gallon. smile.gif
He flared after I took him from the cup to that. LOL.

He's so weird.
I love him.

I think I'll name him
Flare or Dragon
Any name suggestions are appreciated, I'll try to get some pictures now that he's actually swimming around.

Edit: BTW He really does have a total "Whats that? FLARE" ATTITUDE n_n smile.gif

Congrats on your new baby. About the bushy thing you may want to remove it if you notice him damaging his fins. If not then it may be o.k. mine like to hide behind the filter and the back wall sometimes. You may want to buy him or make him a hidey hole . They like to hide sometimes. As for the air bubbles that is great if he likes them. Most bettas do not like a lot of current ,but it varies from betta to betta. You may want to get him a silk plant that he can rest on sometimes. They like to sleep or rest on plant leaves like a big old butterfly pearched on a leaf. About the reflection thing. that is normal. It is o.k. as long as he does not overstimulate himself and tire himself out. If flares that much the backround may cause him to flare more. some bettas will flare at anything they see around the tank as a solid color. So backround may or may not be a good idea. It is o.k. to get a mirror and have him flare every morning for about 5 minutes. Some breeders do this to exercise them. As for the curled fin. There is nothing you can do to change it . And I think it gives him personality. He is a cutey

I seem to remember reading somewhere, can't remember where though, that curled ventrals can be a sign that a betta has been subjected to very poor water quality in past, also I think maybe sometimes they curl slightly in older bettas anyway as well. Could also just a be a genetic thing to him. Just some ideas. I don't think it's anything to worry about now, I'm sure you'll give him great care anyway smile.gif
