Hello, I have a snail and he rarely can get any fishfood in the tank b/c the fishes are too fast and hungry so I bought him some Hikari Algea eater food ... it turns out my fishes eat that thing too ... and I throw those in at 3 AM @ night but the fishes still find out and eat it. So, 2 questions

1) it's okay for the fishes to eat it ? another food treat smile.gif
2) what can I do about the snail ? I still float veggie in the tank at night and he still eats it, but would that be enough nutrient for the snail ?

Thanks,
Luke Anderson
1) yes it is a healthy way to vary your goldfish's diet smile.gif
2) As long as your snail gets plenty of veggies and the occasional bit of algae in your tank it should be plenty. If you are worried make sure to change the vegetables/fruit you give all the time, so he/she will have a wide variety of nutrients biggrin.gif

I found out that these algea wafers are very favoriable by the fishes. *All* my fishes has spent the last 30 min at the bottom of the tank nipping on it .

Cryptopo1,

I have the same problem with algae wafers. I try to feed my pleico and snail, but the goldies -always- find them first.

However, I find that tucking a lettuce leaf in a vege-clip or even anchored into the gravel works wonders. Sure, the goldies find interest in it, but it soon wanes. The snail and pleico find it, enjoy it, and I remove the buried edge from the gravel with my vaccuum.

I have also had much success with celery tips.

Hope this helps.

vege-clip

What's that?

I can never get the veg in my tank to stay in one place, it always ends up floating around!

It's a plastic clip designed to hold lettuce leaves in place. Think closepin for a fishtank.

My friend has one and swears by it. I just tuck it into my gravel and clean any vegetable matter that isn't eaten the following day. My goldies do like the concept of the lettuce in the tank, as I place it under the waterfall of my bio-wheel so I gently rocks back and forth in the water, it attracts the pleico by evening and the snail by day.

And celery tips, plunge into the gravel easily. My snail actually digs at the gravel bed to get more of it.

I hope this helps.
