..a 20 gallon tank! So I need everybody's help! lol

What filters, etc. do I need to get? I'll be getting the tank, hood w/ light, and a stand.

I want to make sure I do this right!

(and no, I haven't got the USB cord back either! doh!)

For a 20 gallon tank I am very fond of Marineland Emperor 280s. They are a good workhorse of a filter having plenty of room of ceramic media, a cartridge you can change (I blast mine clean and keep them a LONG time) and a biowheel. They give you 280gph - just about perfect for a correctly stocked 20 gallon goldie tank.

You can shop on line - but recently, I have found that PetSmart on line has them the cheapest around here (cheaper than BigAls!) . Print off the page on the online site and take it to your store and they will match the price.

You should have an air feature, too, I feel. A simple air pump with the air bubbler of your choice - disk, stone, bar, etc. is fun and a good insurance policy against higher temperatures and stagnant portions of your tank.

Congratulations! I LOVE the potential of a new tank. SO fun!!!! biggrin.gif

Dido to what Daryl said... new tanks are tons of fun and planning them is my favorite part! I just set up a 20H for my two fishboys as well so all of the goodies are pretty fresh in my mind; for filters, I have found (after a whisper went kaput on me early on in the saga of my fish-keeping) that I adore AquaClears. They run smoothly, quietly, not too many peices, easily put together, and fit really nicely on the tank with a peice on the bottom that helps to allow for the filter to rest flush against the back of the tank to keep things level. I also agree with a bubbler.... I would definately recommend a stone of some sort; the wand that I had was a porous compresses paper material and collected algae like a magnet (which of course killed the flow of the bubble).

Another thing you could do would be a heater to maintain a constant temp (though it's not always nessisary). Have you decided what you're going to do about decor?

EDIT: Whoot!! Hundredth post! YAY!

I was thinking some plants (fake) since he loves to play hide and seek in the ones he has now, and gravel!
