Hi:)
Yesterday the light in my 20gal went out so I went to get another one. When I got there, I discovered that there are many different colors of lights. Some are more yellow, some more blue, etc. So my question is, I have 2 orandas, no plants. What is/or is there a color of light that is best for gold fish? I ended up with a more blue light. ANy thoughts?

if you have no plants then the lighting spectrum will simply be just to suit you ( not plants or anything) this is because goldfishes really don't mind if there is light or not and are not really affected by the different degree of light(more blue or yellow) if you are buying lights for just goldfishes, the only thing you need to consider is what will be the best for you to view your fishes, which means most suiting to your eyes.
and if you have plants the I would suggest you go with lights that are around 10k - 12 k. not too blue or your plants may just die off, and not too yellow or else you would be like looking at a yellow tank and you get the rest of the idea.
It would also be best if you could mix different colors of light together, like 6.5k with a 10k, it would give a really nice effect and really good for plant growth too. see if there are other combinations that you think it good for your plants or not too. experiment with it if you want.
this is just IMO, others may have better ideas.

My tank only has a place for one bulb. So it doesnt matter if the color is different just for the goldies. Ill remember that next time.
My tank is pretty bare right now. thanks for the advice!!

I've heard some people say that more reddish lights help strengthen the pigments on the goldfish, but I'm not sure if you'll like the way your tank looks.

I guess my main concern was that m not harming my fish, I would take the bulb back. The blue light looks a lot different. I dont know if Im in love with the look but it is bad!
Thank you everyone who has responded!!
