hey guys, i have a large fancy fantail that has for some time now has been getting fatter and his scales seem to be taking on a pinecone affect. im treating him now and i have added salt for him. does anyone here know much about this problem? when should i see improvment with him?

Dropsy (if it is) can be deadly so the quicker you can get back with us the better.

im all out of test strips but the tank is a 55gallon
penguin 350 filters (2)
tank has been up for 2months
i change 25% water every saturday
im useing jungle care for the dropsy
i feed them a well balanced diet everyday like fruit, vegetables, flake, blood worms, peas once or twice week
hes pretty much acting normal he eats well, and acts normal just bloating. hes chest was bloated first then his sides. kinda looks like theres fluid under his scales? under his chest, his scales do stick out. ill.gif

To be honest Julie you need to get the water tested before doing anything, including treating with meds. If the water is out of whack then you could be making things worse by using medication. Or it could be what is wrong therefore throwing money away on the meds and taking a risk with the cycle.

Can you answer the rest of the questions, like how many fish.....etc?

If he is acting ok and just a bit bloated it may not be dropsy.
