So, I'm trying to find a nice 50 gallon tank...
I have two jobs lined up, I'm waiting to hear from one to tell the 2nd whether or not I can take it.
If I work at the ice cream parlor
I'll be getting around 120 a week...
If I dont get the job at deluxe(ice cream factory) I'll be baby sitting my cousins everyweek for 100 and have fridays off.
(I cant decided which I should want more... o_o one I get paid for sitting around and making sure they dont kill themselves. I mean. c'mon.)
Anyways
I'm trying to find a nice large tank I can fit another goldie or 3 *cough* into.
I'm really wanting a lionhead~
>: o
But uh..
I'm not sure what I should get, I'm looking at Petsmart and Petco
Seaclear Rectangular Aquarium Black 50 gallon.
That right now is looking best..

But, Heres my #1 issue..
a top.
I'm figuring that one comes with a top, but I need a filter,
I'm thinking of Emperor Power Aquarium Filters Model 400
But I'm not sure if it'll work with that aquarium sad.gif
Help me figure out how to put a aquarium with my budget sad.gif
(My right now spending limit on everything is 400, as thats a months pay and I'll have a huge concert at the begining of August I want moneyz for.)

I just picked up a 55 with hood/lights for $120 at Petsmart. For a filter, I got an AquaClear 110 for $40 and it is AWESOME with 500 gph. (I want to switch all my filters out now to the AC.)

Total cost, minus stand and decs, was $160+tax.

Good luck getting your tank!

On most hoods you can cut out a place in the back to fit the filter. The glass ones are a little harder, because you have more limited space for where you can cut.

The one at Wal Mart doesn't include a filter that is powerful enough for goldies, so if you get that one, you're going to have to add another filter anyway.

I'd recommend looking at craigslist.org. I have bought both my tanks from someone who was selling them there, and got a really good deal. Sometimes you can even find them with stands.

Alternately if you don't want to pay for a professional stand, you can make your own rather easily. I spent about $25 on the stuff to make a really strong stand at Home Depot. I got a nice laminate pine board and some cinderblocks and it is really strong, and big (48"x18").

I'd go with glass instead of acrylic, they are generally cheaper.

Just a quick little addendum to LE Pirin's post.... in addition to being cheaper, glass is also ALOT easier to clean. If you get an algae build up in an acrylic tank it can be a pain to get rid of because normal algae scrappers can scratch the surface of the tank. Acrylics can look really neat but in my opinion they're not all that practical.

I was going to say the exact same thing. I have that kit tank from that store, and the AquaTech filter it comes with only has 330gph flow rate (according to CS, but to be honest, I think it's much less). You'll need at least 500gph for a 50/55g.

Keep looking around and you may just happen upon a deal. Do you have a Pet Supermarket in your area? Ours is really great about discounting sometimes if you ask. We got them to come down 40% on a wooden cabinet stand for our 55g.

Good luck!
